It was the Davizzi, a wealthy Florentine family, who – in the first half of the 14th century – initiated the construction of a stately palace in full medieval style such as the elegant and imposing Palazzo Davanzati. And it is precisely this medieval atmosphere that we can still grasp today when we step inside that gateway and linger in its characteristic courtyard.

Amidst daring staircases, secret rooms, heraldic coats of arms and frescoes of enchanted gardens, we are introduced into the magical world of the Provençal Troubadours who sang of ‘courtly love’ for a mysterious Woman, capable of refining and ennobling man and thus leading him to lofty spiritual goals.

The story of the Castellana de Vergy, imprinted on the walls of one of those rooms, in a blaze of roses and flowering trees, is coloured with allegorical hues that seem to evoke secret processes all to be discovered and experienced.
