Saturday 21 february at 10am – SPECIAL OPENING – We will lead through the secret rooms of the enclosed Monastery where Saint Catherine de’ Ricci lived and died
Santa Caterina de’ Ricci: Faith and Mysticism.
Basilica and Monastery of San Vincenzo in Prato
A journey of profound spirituality will lead us through the secret rooms of the enclosed Monastery where Saint Catherine de’ Ricci lived and died. In addition to the monumental Basilica and the Nuns’ Choir, visitors will have the rare opportunity to access the most secluded areas of the monastery. It was here that the Saint—one of the most prominent religious figures of 16th-century Tuscany—experienced the mystical ecstasies of the Passion of Christ.
A fervent devotee of Girolamo Savonarola, Catherine experienced visions, ecstasies, and painful raptures within the silence of these cells, becoming the protagonist of miraculous events. We will have the chance to admire the “miraculous” effigy of the Madonna dei Papalini, which saved the monastery during the “Sack of Prato”. We will also walk through the silent corridors lined with monastic cells, including the chapel housing the Saint’s Crucifix and the very place where she passed away.
History, art, and spiritual symbols mark a path of intimate and profound emotion.
